Breaking(英文又称Breakdance、B-Boying,中文称地板霹雳舞),1970年代起源于美国纽约S的布朗克斯区,是一种难度较高的街舞舞种,比较重视舞步和技巧的结合。

It's founder was James Brown, an American East Coast black singer who had created his own unique dance style. He performed on TV and choreographed a strange and odd routine which attracted many young people. The dance became popular in Los Angeles, where it was copied by other dancers who mimicked the robot-like movements of a puppet. The two styles came together, attracting huge crowds at parties and events across America. It was known as "street dance" because it was often performed on the street.

What does 'break' mean?

It can be used to describe various actions or situations that cause something to break or fail. Some examples include:

  • Breaking: A sudden and violent impact that causes damage or destruction.
  • Broken: Involving physical injury or harm to someone or something.
  • Breaking up: Ending a relationship, marriage, etc., when partners no longer get along well.

On the other hand, 'break' also refers to a momentary pause or interruption in action. For example:

  • Take a break: To stop working for a short period of time.
  • Break through: To overcome a barrier or obstacle; to make progress or achieve success.

Can we use 'break' as a verb or adjective? Yes, both forms are possible depending on context. Here are some examples:

  • Break: When you break bread (a type of bread), you share food with others.
  • Break through: You can say that he broke through to the audience by using humor during his speech.

How do 'fracture' and 'break' differ? Fracture generally describes the physical process of breaking or splitting apart something into smaller parts, such as a bone fracture. On the other hand, 'break' can refer to any kind of disruption or failure, whether it's accidental or intentional. For instance, a car may break down due to mechanical problems or a person might break their leg while playing sports.

What are the differences between 'break' and 'crack'? 'Break' can be used to describe physical impacts or disintegrations caused by external forces, such as falling objects or weapons. Cracks, however, are more likely to occur naturally over time, usually from wear and tear, exposure to water or chemicals, or heating and cooling cycles. For example, a piece of glass may crack if it falls too hard or is exposed to heat.

How many meanings does 'break' have? Break can mean several different things depending on its context. Some examples include:

  • To break something means to destroy it completely or permanently.
  • To break a record means to surpass the previous best performance or achievement.
  • To break up a relationship or end a partnership means to sever ties and move on.

As a general rule, break is often associated with violence or conflict, but it can also be used metaphorically to indicate a sudden change or shift in circumstances. Therefore, it's important to choose the right word based on the situation or situation described.
